Music, podcasts and audio
What The Listen plays: podcasts, shows published as podcasts, audio in any feed, audiobook files, and read-aloud.
Ledgable is not a music player, and it does not pretend to be. It is a very good place for anything that arrives as audio in a feed. Podcasts, radio shows, mixes and lectures published as podcasts, audio from any feed, and any article read aloud all land in The Listen.

Podcasts
- Incoming › The Listen › Podcasts.
- Search the open podcast index by name, or browse the genre shelf.
- Tap a cover and you are subscribed, into your feed server if you have one or into Local Feeds if not.
Already have the show’s feed address from its host page? Paste it into Add a feed by URL. Episodes download ahead for offline, a queue plays them in order, chapters and a sleep timer are there, and where you stopped follows you to every device. The details are in Podcasts and Continue.
Music, honestly
Streaming services do not publish feeds, so Spotify and Apple Music stay where they are. What does work:
- Shows published as podcasts: radio programmes, DJ mixes, label shows, concert series and live-session archives. Search the podcast finder for the station or the show.
- Audio in any feed. A feed entry with an audio file attached is an episode as far as The Listen is concerned, whatever the site calls it. Internet Archive collections, for instance, publish feeds.
- Audiobook files you own go on the Bookshelf and play from there, with the same Continue bar.
- Read aloud. Any article, letter or book chapter can be spoken by the device; on the Watch, the Spoken page reads your ledger to you.
Whatever plays, the Now Playing bar carries ★ and a note button, so a moment in a show can become a pick with the exact timestamp.
Learn the idea
A podcast is nothing more than a feed with audio files in it, which is why any show can be followed from any app. Buzzsprout’s How do podcast RSS feeds work explains it in a few minutes, and Podcast Index is the open directory Ledgable searches.
