Comics are CBZ files on the same shelf as your books, and on Android the shelf can fetch them itself from comic sources. Here is where the files come from and how the sources work.

Files you own

• Humble Bundle — regular comic bundles from the big independent publishers, unlocked CBZ and PDF.
• Publishers and creators selling directly — Image Comics, Panel Syndicate’s pay-what-you-want books, creators on itch.io and Gumroad.
• Digital Comic Museum and Comic Book Plus — golden-age comics in the public domain, thousands of them, free.
• Internet Archive — scanned runs and magazines.
• Your own scans — a folder of page images zipped up is a CBZ.

CBR does not open. A CBR is a different kind of archive. Unpack it and zip the pages, or let Calibre convert it, and it becomes a CBZ the reader understands.

Webcomics

Most webcomics publish a feed. Add it and each strip arrives in The Read with the image in place; hold the image to crop a panel onto today’s page.

A comic server

Komga and Kavita both speak OPDS. Add the server in Settings › Books and your whole library is browsable from the shelf; a tap downloads the issue.

Comic sources on Android

On Android the Bookshelf has a Comic sources menu. Sources are fetchers: small extension packages from the community-maintained catalog that the Mihon reader also uses. Choose Get a source…, search by name, tap to install, then browse that source from the shelf. A chapter you download lands as a CBZ in a series folder, where the reader, Continue, read-ahead and the library hub already know what to do with it. Remove a source from the same menu.

Sources reach whatever site they were written for, so their reliability and legality are those of that site. Ledgable does not curate them.
